1. Ride on a steam train

For a great family day out with your dog, jump aboard the North York Moors Railway from Pickering to the popular seaside town of Whitby. Hop on and off the steam train to explore the areas along the way or simply enjoy a bite to eat at the dog-friendly café in the 1930s themed Pickering Station. Newtondale Halt is situated in the heart of the North York Moors and is a hotspot for dogs with lots of walking trails to explore, leaves to snuffle through and puddles to discover. Well-behaved dogs are welcome aboard for just £3 per pet.

2. Explore the ruins of Whitby Abbey

The magnificent ruins of Whitby Abbey offer a wonderful day out for everyone including the dog. Situated on a cliff overlooking the seaside town of Whitby, uncover centuries of history and discover the inspiration behind Bram Stoker’s Dracula which put the town on the map. After sniffing around the ruins, head to the open grassy area and settle down for a picnic with spectacular views of the town below and finish of your day with a soak in the cabin hot tub.

3. Visit a historic castle

Uncover 900 years of history at Helmsley Castle from its time as a mighty medieval fortress to a luxurious Tudor mansion as well as a Civil War stronghold and romantic Victorian ruin. This medieval fortress is situated in the picturesque market town of Helmsley within the North York Moors National Park, a must see for anyone visiting. Your dog will love exploring the castle grounds and there is plenty of space for them to roam.

4. Explore Rievaulx Abbey

A day spent wandering through the majestic ruins of Rievaulx Abbey is a day well spend and your dog will love exploring the ruins alongside you. One of the most powerful Cistercian monasteries in England, follow the story of its rise and fall at the pet-friendly museum. You’ll be pleased to know that your four-legged-friend can join you in the tearoom so why not pop in for a bite to eat after a day exploring.

5. Dog-friendly beach days

Last on our list for dog-friendly days out in Yorkshire is a beach day! With plenty of beaches in Yorkshire to choose from you’ll be spoilt for choice, but Tate Hill Beach is an ideal option for dog owners. A small, sheltered beach, your dog is welcome year-round and there are miles of coastline to stroll along with smuggler’s caves along the way.
