Democracy in Action: Women’s March in Sag Harbor

On Saturday, January 21, East Enders joined over 500 American communities and millions of people worldwide who marched in support of women’s rights and civil rights. Local participants met at the windmill on Long Wharf in Sag Harbor to peacefully carry signs down Main Street’s sidewalks. The assembly marched twice around Sag Harbor’s downtown, past the burned-out Sag Harbor Cinema site, the war memorial monument, the America Hotel. Fifty people were expected to attend, several hundred people of every age came out to demonstrate their right to be heard as citizens. Marchers shouted “Women’s rights are human rights!,” alternately with “This is what democracy looks like!”
